Post Description
Folk, indie pop, Sydney.
The “Normal Magic” LP by Holly Throsby was released on Hobbledehoy and brings together ten new songs that carry forward the artist’s subtle singer‑songwriter core in clear, stripped-back arrangements. The work builds on her familiar storytelling approach and relies on sparse instrumentation, keeping melody and lyrics at the center.
Style-wise, the album lives in the realm of intimate folk and singer‑songwriter music; acoustic guitars, piano, and carefully placed synthesizers create a warm yet unpretentious soundscape. The tracks are characterized by subtle, detail‑oriented song structures and a plainspoken, poetic language. Guest appearances such as the duet on “Hold Please” with Laura Jean or McKisko’s contribution to “Photoshoot” round out the sound without overpowering the quiet atmosphere.
Holly Throsby also distinguishes herself on the record as a producer; she handled production together with co‑producer Marcus Thaine, while engineering was done, among other places, at Stranded Studios in Bellambi. Recording and additional contributions came from longtime collaborators including Jordan Ireland, Pete Golsby, Isabel Walsh, Jake Core, Marcus Whale, and Oliver Mestitz; the album was mixed by Burke Reid and mastered by William Bowden. This collaboration results in a clear, organic sound that underscores Throsby’s unmistakable style.
