album pop Roger Waters The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux COOKING VINYL/V2 
Nederlandse popjournalisten hadden in 1973 geen hoge pet op van The Dark Side Of The Moon.
Het achtste album van de symfonische rockband Pink Floyd eindigde in de OOR-jaarlijst op plek 63.
Maar de plaat werd wel het op drie na succesvolste popalbum ooit, met wereldwijd zo’n vijftig miljoen verkochte exemplaren.
Daar zijn er dit jaar vast de nodige bij gekomen, want in maart verscheen The Dark Side Of The Moon als 50th Anniversary Edition Box Set.

Zonder zijn oude maten David Gilmour (grote onderlinge ruzie), Nick Mason (neutraal in het conflict) en Rick Wright (overleden in 2008) had Roger Waters (79) 
zich toen al ontfermd over hun gezamenlijke mijlpaal. Het verhaal van die plaat was volgens hem nog niet af.
Vandaar nu The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux, een sterk staaltje door megalomanie ingegeven heiligschennis.
De nieuwe versie is een kabbel-babbel-album, een oudemannenplaat. De muziek is van haar scherpte ontdaan.
Gitaarsolo’s ontbreken, hoewel Waters beschikte over Jonathan Wilson, toch niet de minste op dat gebied.
De zang kent ook een hoog seniorengehalte, want Waters zingt vooral in een bedaarde Leonard Cohen-modus.

Hij verliest zich op dit album – met als beginzin ‘The memories of a man in his old age, are the deeds of a man in his prime’ – in een overdaad aan gesproken woord.
Zo uitgesproken als de controversiële Waters zich de laatste jaren heeft opgesteld in heikele kwesties (Poetin, Oekraïne, Israël-Palestina), 
zo poëtisch-pretentieus is hij in de nieuwe teksten die hij heeft toegevoegd aan bestaande songs (kras voorbeeld: Time) of gekoppeld aan voorheen instrumentale stukken.
Dat laatste leidt tot de verminking van The Great Gig In The Sky.
De hemelse, woordloze zang van Clare Torry hierin is vervangen door anekdotisch geklets.
Is er dan niets goed aan deze herinterpretatie? Jawel.
De plaat kent nogal wat nummers die bejaardencentra meer keuze geven in hun muziekaanbod bij het gezamenlijk drinken van thee en koffie.

Roger Waters’ The Dark Side of the Moon Redux (Live at the London Palladium) is a 2025 release, featuring a live recording of his re-imagined version of Pink Floyd’s iconic album.
The album was recorded during two sold-out shows at the London Palladium in October 2023.
A super deluxe box set of the Redux album, including the live version, was released on March 14, 2025.
The box set includes gold vinyl, CD, and Blu-ray versions of the album, as well as a Dolby Atmos mix, track-by-track video interview, and a 40-page book of photographs.
Additionally, a Record Store Day 2025 edition on neon pink vinyl was released.
The Dark Side of The Moon Redux was initially rerecorded by Waters in 2023 and released for the 50th anniversary of the original Dark Side of The Moon.
The Redux features no other members of Pink Floyd, other than Waters, and instead was recorded with a number of musicians, including Gus Seyyfert from The Black Keys, 
and previous Floyd collaborator Jon Carin.
Waters intention was not to replace Dark Side of The Moon, but rather to pay tribute to it and readdress, as he saw it, the album’s political statements.
